There are currently over 714,000 unfilled jobs in cybersecurity in the United States – a figure that is double what it was last year – and this shortfall is expected to double again by 2025. Jobs in cybersecurity pay significantly higher than many other fields, even at the entry level. The number of cybercrimes in the United States has increased by 70% and financial losses have increased by more than 20% in the past year. This crisis impacts businesses, government at all levels, and individual citizens. Employers realize that a diverse candidate pool isn’t just the “right” thing to do – it is a mathematical necessity to fill these positions. The problem is a perception by employers that many applicants lack documented experience, certifications, or training to fill the open roles. This presentation will explore strategies that employers, governments, educators, students, and job seekers can employ to fill these critical cybersecurity workforce gaps and open the door to career opportunities to diverse and traditionally underserved populations. In addition to the live presentation, attendees will be provided with access to an e-portfolio of resources related to workforce development and employment.
