José Domínguez is currently the Interim Chief Information Security Office for the University of Oregon. In his role as CISO, he is responsible for defining and overseeing the execution of the information security strategy for the university. He leads the Information Security Office which is responsible for Information Security Compliance, Risk Assessments, Policies and Standards, Security Awareness, Security Architecture and Solutions Design, Threat Defense, Vulnerability Management, Investigations and Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity Operations Center, Intelligence Management and Incident Response. José has served in various roles at the University of Oregon, including Director of Information Security Services and Operations, Network Architect, Assistant Director for Network Engineering, as well as managed the Oregon Gigapop (OGIG), the Oregon Internet Exchange (OIX) and the Network for Education and Research in Oregon (NERO).

During the last 30 years, José has been involved in building secure networks and deploying emerging technologies in the educational sector and for service providers in the Dominican Republic, where he designed the first NREN initiative for the country, the USA and other countries in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and Asia.

José also works with the Network Startup Resource Center and the Escuela Latino Americana de Redes (EsLaRed) providing strategic training and technical advice to networking and security projects in emerging markets. In addition, José has chaired program content committees at multiple Internet2, Northwest Academic Computing Consortium (NWACC), EsLaRed/WALC workshops and has taught workshops on Multicast, IPv6, Network Design and Internet Architecture, Network Monitoring and Management, Advanced Routing Techniques, BGP Security, Building a Security Operations Center and many other topics at events such as LACNIC, Internet2/ESnet Joint-Techs and TechEx Meetings, and EsLaRed/WALC workshops throughout the USA, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.

José came to the University of Oregon as a Fulbright Scholar and fell in love with the University and the state of Oregon. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys everything that Oregon has to offer. From hiking and playing disc golf around Eugene to skiing, backpacking, camping, kayaking, mountain biking around the many areas that Oregon has to offer.
