Ransomware is on the rise and is in the news on a near-daily basis, worsened by the effects of the pandemic and the rapidly changing landscape of remote work. In this session, we will explore the changing economy and evolving extortion tactics of ransom-based attacks. We’ll take a look at some of the most prolific threat groups and uncover some of their most common tactics, techniques, and attack procedures. We’ll examine the role the pandemic and subsequent hybrid work environments have played in the growing ransomware epidemic, as well as, discuss predictions for the future of extortion attacks, particularly for OT & IoT environments. This talk will also briefly touch on cyber insurance as it relates to ransomware before concluding with some ways organizations can prepare for and meet the challenges of defending against these types of attacks.
