Secure By Design

My name is Joshua Martin. I received my first computer as a gift from my godparents at age 14, and felt I’d finally found my calling. Due to family trouble and untreated ADHD, I struggled in school. Despite receiving A+ grades in all my AP Computer Science classes, and scoring in the top 1% in the nation for Science & Technical Skills on the ASVAB at 17, I barely graduated with a 2.0 GPA. I was a restaurant manager for 11 years, performing tech services on the side, before I resolved to seriously pursue tech as a career. I received an AS in Network & Systems Administration from Linn-Benton Community college with a 3.79GPA, and after a brief stint at HP, I began working at the Philomath School District in Summer of 2022 as a level 1 Tech. Six months later I was the sole System Administrator. Working within very limited K12 budgets, I have helped my team find ways to cut costs and drastically increase reliability and security across all our systems. Channeling my passion for open-source software & creative solutions, I have directly initiated and executed transitions to many open-source and low-cost products, including our helpdesk & ticketing system (Zammad), hypervisor (Proxmox), NAS (TrueNAS), Firewall (OPNSense), Camera system (Zoneminder), Phone system (FreePBX) and much more.
